Emergency Medical 1 (EM1)

March 2 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$145.00

In Emergency Medical 1, students will be trained in CRP/AED for all ages, common medical emergencies, and trauma emergencies. At the completion of the course, students will earn a CPR card, Basic First Aid card and Tactical Emergency Combat Care (TECC) certificate valid for 2 years.

The course covers American Heart Association standards for CPR, use of an Automatic External Defibrillator and choking for adults, children, and infants.  During the medical portion of the class, the most common types of medical emergencies will be covered including heart attacks, stroke, diabetic emergencies, environmental emergencies, and the different types of shock and how to prevent and treat it.

Much of the trauma will focus on penetrating injuries such as gunshot wounds and stabbings.  The standards are based on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) guidelines and controlling massive hemorrhage. Identifying fractures and treatment with simple splinting will also be covered as well as spinal injuries.

The course is a combination of lectures, videos, PowerPoint, and hands-on learning.  Although lecturing is part of the class, come prepared to get hands-on and learn through performing medical assessments, splinting, tourniquet placement, wound packing and much more.
